Dover to Ramsgate - Monday 8th August 2011 - Day 89
We left the tidal harbour pontoon at 07.30 to carry a favourable tide eastwards.

Dover Eastern Entrance |
Passing Prince of Wales pier called harbour control to depart western entrance and out through the piers at 07.45. It was a fine clear day and once again could see the coast of France. Sails were hoisted with 2 reefs in the main and shortened genoa. With the strong tide we quickly passed the eastern entrance which is used by the many ferries and had an easy run with no ferry movements and headed for the inshore shipping lane.

White Cliffs of Dover |
This is the famous landmark, although the cliffs are not as spectacular as Beachy Head. They certainly are welcoming sight to anyone returning from the sea to their homeland. The inside shipping lane takes you safely passed the Goodwin Sands which are very hazardous and the well marked buoyed channel keeps you away from any danger. It is only a short run to Ramsgate and with the favourable tide we were tied up on our pontoon four hours after leaving Dover.

Aida Blu |
We passed this German cruise liner Aida Blu on her way to Dover. The design on the front and side are for you to make your mind up about, as the big red lips on the bow and eye on the side may not be everyone's liking.
In the afternoon, Bill went off scouting and doing the shopping while I spent time scrubbing three months weed off the hull at the waterline.
At night we went to the Sovereign pub for a meal while watching cricket on the tele. To finish off we went to the Royal Temple yacht club and on entering were struck by its magnificence. The trophy cabinet is the best I have seen anywhere. The history displayed in its many paintings and decorations are in a beautiful condition. The club brochure is a delight and the staff are more than happy to help in answering our many questions. Our only regret is we should of gone there sooner, as like every establishment at the allotted hour we were sent on our way.
