Tourist day, off to Weatherspoon's 'Eight Bells' for Sunday lunch which was very good value for money.
Dover Castle |
Within the castle's great tower there are enactments of medieval times which are done very well.
The tour of the secret wartime tunnels is a must while the visit to the operations rooms used to evacute troops from the Dunkirk beaches requires queueing for half an hour. This is well worth it and the animation, visual/audio displays really gives you an insight of how things were during the early 1940s.
Dover Port |
Dover has to be the busiest ferry port within the UK with movements every twenty minutes and these ferries are very large, showing there is still a lot of trade and people who wish to leave and return to these shores. It also has a large cruise liner terminal and there was two liners in while we were there. By the time I returned on board, I was very tired from walking up to the castle, doing the tour, climbing lots of stairs and wandering around inside tunnels.
Dover Town |
Ashore for the night in the nearest bar/restaurant to Cullen's Yard where we met up again with Dave whom we had previously met in the yacht club and he gave us very good information on how to leave the port and communications required by the harbour control. This nicely ended a wonderful adventurous day.
